Venting a bit.

Work as a census lister for the US Census of Bureau was too short this time - barely a week, and BAM!, the higher ups tells us we're done. This time work was different on checking the type of addresses, compared to last time where we were checking to make sure the addresses we got were actual residencies. Temporary, but still. At least it gives me some expreience.

Other than that, job hunting is... difficult. Mostly my fault, I suppose. I have trouble hashing out long-term goals and sticking to them on the off-chance I do create them, as I'm more of a day-to-day type of person. My dad keeps on insisting IT work like Cisco but I don't feel it's my kind of thing. Talking with one of my high school counselors let out some pent-up frustration, and she pointed out how I was a bit more of a people-interacting type of person, which kinda surprises me. They say having a good network helps and that's probably part of my problem and the irony on what my counselor said. I just wish I was a more pro-active so I can be a bit more financially stable. It kinda feels the scenario of where you have the certification but lack the experience, or have the experience but lack certification.

Experience is always good, even if it's not what you want to do long term. If you give even short-term jobs your best effort it can really help later when you're applying for a job you really want - when you can provide references from people who'll say great stuff about you ^_~

Networks can help, true. I got my foot in the door by being willing to volunteer for awhile in an area I was really interested in, and when a job opened up the folks that were hiring already had an idea of my enthusiasm and what I could do.

Job hunting is totally difficult - especially nowadays, so hang in there and good luck!

"Having a good network" is not just limited to people you know in a professional capacity. Your network also includes the friends and family who are supportive of your wants and dreams - and even the people you know just online. Any of them might be aware of someone who is hiring, and any of them who aren't related might be willing to give you a character-witness reference.

I'm glad talking to your school counselor helped. Maybe she could recommend a career guidance person who could offer you some more formal help, if that's what you'd be interested in?

*hugs* Keep holding on! And if you feel the urge to give up on it entirely, give yourself permission to "give up" and hide for one day - do pampering and restorative things for that one day to comfort yourself - and then get back in the fight. Those sorts of days helped me stay sane during my time between jobs.
